Vladimir Yakovlev

( 15.03.1934 - 10.10.1998) 

 

one of the russian legends of post-war unofficial art. 

 

He studied in the private studio of Vasily Sitnikov in the 1950s.  He became a member of the Moscow City Committee of Graphic Artists in 1976.  He took part in exhibitions of the Soviet nonconformist artists.  He was interned to the psychological-neurological hostel no. 30 in Moscow in 1983 until he died there in 1998.

In his lifetime his works were already part of solo and group exhibition in Russia and in the European foreign countries.

 

Vladimir Yakovlev's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from 234 USD to 48,000 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 2000 the record price for this artist at auction is 48,000 USD for RUSSIAN, 1934-1998 CAT WITH A BIRD, sold at Sotheby's New York in 2006. Vladimir Yakovlev has been featured in articles for Art Reveal Magazine and New York Times. The most recent article is Free Flight written for Art Reveal Magazine in July 2019.
