Vladimir Yankilevsky

The nonconformist artist, painter, graphic artist and illustrator.

First lessons in painting was his father, artist Boris Yankylevsky.

In 1949-1956 he studied at the Moscow Art School at the Institute to them. VISurikova. In 1962 he graduated from the Institute of Printing. Along with studying at the institute involved in studio E. Belutin.

 Reflects on the place of man in the universe. In the 1960’s, the main concept in works was a triptych, embodying the biomechanical structure of the world, where the male and female origins form a universe. «Existential boxes» and doors, the shape of which restricts freedom of form and movement were his motive in the 70’s.

 

V. Yankylevsky works are in museum collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, Pushkin Museum im. Pushkin State Russian Museum, the Center Georges Pompidou (Paris, France), the National Gallery in Prague (Czech Republic), Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest (Hungary), the National Gallery in Dresden (Germany), Museum Ludwig (Cologne, Germany), as well as other museums and private collections.

 

Vladimir Yankilevsky's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from 195 USD to 289,768 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. Since 2001 the record price for this artist at auction is 289,768 USD for Adam and Eve. Triptych No 5, sold at Vladey in 2017.
